Wanna live on the sparkling Adriatic coast of Croatia?
It’s easier and more affordable than you might think—and getting more so on October 10.
That’s the opening date of Digital Nomad Valley Zadar, a new residential community intended specifically for foreign remote workers with special visas that allow them to remain in Croatia for up to a year.
A project of local apartment rental service grabAhome, the digital nomad village has been nicknamed “The Valley” by its creators, not due to any geographical features but to encourage mental associations with Silicon Valley, according to Euronews.
The community is located north of the red-roofed Old Town in Zadar (pictured above), a city known for its ancient ruins, sun-kissed coastline, and youthful nightlife.
Available accommodations include brightly lit, cheerfully decorated studio, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom cottages with fully equipped kitchens, terraces, and, most important for remote workers, Wi-Fi that’s free and, according to the resort, fast.
You can rent the entire unit or get matched with a roommate.
Access to a coworking space is given to all residents, who will also be invited to special events to socialize with the neighbors.
The cost of a stay starts at €130 ($151) per week, with prices varying based on length of stay, size of unit, and whether you opt to share your living quarters. The minimum length of a stay allowed is two weeks; weekly costs decline the longer you stay.
The monthly total for the most affordable option comes out to €520—or $603, which is cheaper than the monthly rent for a one-bedroom apartment in 99 major U.S. cities, according to data from apartment finder Zumper.
If you’re sold on The Valley, you’ll first need to obtain one of the Croatian government’s temporary visas for remote workers. You’ll need to provide proof of employment and income, pay application fees, and meet other requirements. You can apply online.
Then you must register for a spot at Digital Nomad Valley Zadar via an online form.
At the moment, entering Croatia from outside the European Union requires presenting proof of full vaccination against Covid-19 or presenting negative results from a PCR test taken no more than 72 hours before arrival.
